The WNC Civic Hub is a partnership between as many as ten Western North Carolina community action agencies and regional media, with the goal of more effectively telling the stories of these agency’s clients.
Buris Chalmers Communications, of Waynesville, is coordinating a network of agency liaisons, journalists, and storytellers to amplify client voices and advocate for those relying on the public safety net. Working with North Carolina Community Action Association agencies, we are establishing a content creator network, cultivating cross-sector partnerships, and developing systems to share stories, editorials, and videos through various media, digital platforms, community outlets, and events.
The project promotes civic engagement, connects low-income individuals and community leaders, and elevates marginalized voices—encouraging empathy, reframing poverty narratives, and reducing the “deservingness” barrier to strengthen support for social programs.
Buris Chalmers Communications is a mission-driven small business that amplifies the voices of nonprofits, partners, and the communities they serve. We specialize in strategic storytelling, media relations, fundraising campaigns, grant writing, and legislative advocacy advancing equity and expanding opportunities for underserved populations.
Based in Waynesville, our dedicated team helps organizations share powerful stories that shift perceptions, inspire action, and attract investment in proven community solutions. By connecting nonprofits with donors, leaders, and the public, we build resources, strengthen support, and create pathways for families to achieve stability and self-sufficiency.
